Jordi Raïch Curcó

Jordi Raïch Curcó –Barcelona, Spain, 1963– studied Biological Sciences at the University of Barcelona and International Law and International Relations at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He works in humanitarian aid since 1986 as project manager, researcher and consultant in epidemics, famines and, specially, armed conflicts. He has worked in Equatorial Guinea, Peru, El Salvador, Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Angola, Mozambique, Mauritania, Georgia, Guatemala, former‑Zaire, former‑Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, in the US Naval Base of Guantanamo in Cuba, Washington, New York, Tajikistan, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, The Sudan, South Sudan, Colombia, Cuba, Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Japan.

In Spain he was the Director of External Relations of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and co‑founder of Architects Without Borders. He is also associate researcher, specialized in humanitarian operations, law and ethics, of the Institute of Studies on Conflicts and Humanitarian Action (IECAH). He has worked as Protection Delegate and Head of Delegation for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Jordi Raïch lectures in many masters, intervenes regularly in seminars, conferences, TV and radio programs, and publishes opinion editorials, features, and essays in daily, weekly, online and specialized media such as El País, La Vanguardia, El Mundo, El Correo, La Razón, Avui, El Punt, El País Semanal, Papeles de Cuestiones Internacionales, Altaïr, Ara, Público, El Tiempo, Revista Semana, El Universal and Courrier International. He is also a regular contributor at Catalunya Ràdio and www.eldebat.cat.

He is the author of ONGistán (Endebate 2014), Bogotá: Grafiticity. Colombian Street Art (Kindle 2013), El caos sostenible (Península 2012), AfganiSatán. His diplomatic, humanitarian and writing work has been recognized with the Medal Ministry of National Defence degree of Grand Officer of Colombia (2014), the Order José de Marcoleta degree of Grand Cross of Nicaragua (2022), and the Medal of Honor of Barcelona (2022).
